While the flood situation in the Western region of Kazakhstan remains extremely difficult, the Company has organised round-the-clock work to overcome the consequences of flooding at the Uaz East field, maintain stable operations at other fields, and strengthened safety measures for personnel, technical, fire and environmental safety.
- EMG approved on 23 February 2024 the Action Plan to prepare the company's facilities for operation during spring floods. To coordinate actions in the event of an aggravation of the flood situation, on 4 March, EMG established a commission of responsible persons and an operational headquarters to prevent the threat of flooding at the fields of the Emba Groups. Since their establishment, the commission and the operative staff have been constantly monitoring the situation at the fields, carrying out joint work with the operational headquarters of the region and districts,” Sabit Arynov, General Director of EMG JSC, said.
According to the operative headquarters, as of 9 April this year, the negative consequences of flooding are noted only in the field Uaz Vostoshnyi of Kainarmunaigas OKPD. Due to the rising water level in the Sagyz river, 3 wells were partially flooded, they produced 6.6 tonnes of oil per day - they are compensated at the expense of other EMG fields. At the same time, the water receded by 25 metres from the flooded boundary.
In other fields of Embamunagaz OKPD the situation remains stable, flood risks are not predicted, nevertheless, preventive works have been organised at a number of fields.
For example, at Zhylyoiymunaigas OKPD, a 2.8 km long and 1 metre high embankment is being built in the zone of possible flooding of the Teren-Uzek field from the side of the river Zhem to reinforce the gas pipeline.
Taking into account the risk of flooding of Vostochny Makat field from the Sagyz river, a protective structure with a length of 340 metres and a height of 0.5 metres was erected at Dossormunaigas OKPD. In connection with the flooding of a 1.5 km section of the steppe road connecting the Altykul field with the Komsomolskoye field, and in order to reduce the risk to employees, a partial evacuation of 19 auxiliary employees was carried out. At the same time, the main 31 employees (11 of them contractors) remained at the field and continue their work. Production facilities are operating in normal mode. In addition, 7.5 km of the Altykul-Komsomolskoye oil pipeline (total length - 28 km) was flooded. Strengthening works are underway to further spread water and flooding of the steppe road.
For Zhaiykmunaigas OKPD works are underway to strengthen and lengthen the old dam (dyke) on the territory of Kamyshitovoye Yugo-Vostochnoe field. Its total length is 1100 metres and its height is 2 metres. Also, between the fields Kamyshitovoye Yugo-Vostochnoe and Kamyshitovoye Yugo-Zapadnoe, as well as between S. Balgimbayev field and Kamyshitovoye Yugo-Zapadnoe, works on channel clearing and channel strengthening are being carried out. In addition, works on opening the locks on the Baksai and Naryn canals going towards the Caspian Sea were carried out.
In addition, since 25 March 2024, EMG has started to provide assistance to the districts of Atyrau region affected by floods. The Company provides specialised equipment, increasing its quantity in accordance with the needs of the region. To date, 44 units of special equipment, 14.2 tonnes of fuel and lubricants, 183,000 bags, 450 shovels, 4,500 gloves and 600 disposable coveralls have been allocated.
Since 5 April, the company's employees have been involved in bank protection works in the area of Almaly village (4.4 km long). The work was completed by 40%. Since 9 April, all human resources, which is about 300 people and a few dozen of equipment are concentrated on a new site - in the area of the Saryozek river, where EMG is to build 4.4 km of protective dam.
In Zhylyoi district, where a state of emergency has been declared, auxiliary teams of EMG personnel have been formed to assist the city of Kulsary
