EmbaMunayGas Has Digitised Its Permit-to-Work System
Since 2024, JSC “EmbaMunayGas” has implemented an electronic permit-to-work system for carrying out high-risk activities. The platform is used at all production facilities where electrical work, fire- and gas-hazardous work, lifting operations, excavation, maintenance and work at height are performed. Today, the processes of issuing, approving and monitoring permits to work have been fully digitised.
Specialists prepare the permit in the system, select the type of work, specify the required safety measures, and submit the permit for review and approval. Documents can be signed using a personal computer or, directly at production facilities, via a mobile device using a smart card or the eGov Mobile application. All stages of permit issuance and approval are monitored online.
Since the launch of the digital system, 30,000 permits to work have been issued, along with 48,000 work orders for carrying out high-risk activities. This has resulted in savings of approximately 8,000 man-hours and reduced travel associated with business trips by more than 82,000 kilometres.
As a result of the transition to the electronic format, the time required to issue a permit to work has been reduced from 1–3 days to just 1–3 hours. Decision-making has become twice as fast, while the number of business trips between oil fields and oil and gas production divisions has decreased. Overall, digitalisation has increased process transparency, strengthened control over compliance with industrial safety requirements, reduced the impact of human error, and contributed to stronger production discipline.
As part of the Year of Digitalisation and Artificial Intelligence announced by the Head of State, the KazMunayGas Group continues to implement digital solutions across its production assets to improve operational efficiency.
