New Millionth Reserves Are Added to EMG

State Commission on Mineral Reserves of the Republic of Kazakhstan (hereinafter, SCMR) approved an increase in reserves of 9 million tons at the S. Nurzhanov's field of Embamunaigas JSC (hereinafter, EMG or the Company). As a result, recoverable reserves in this field increased from 40.5 million tons to 50.1 million tons.

- As a result of a rational and prudent approach to the development of mature fields and active exploration over the past years, the Company has significantly increased the quantities of oil produced and ensured a significant increase in reserves. Despite the fact that the S. Nurzhanov's field has been developed since the 1960s, thanks to the development methods used by the EMG oil geologists, it continues to provide the lion's share of oil production from the oversaline deposits of the Caspian oil and gas basin for EMG, while maintaining a low level of water cut. Now, after the approval of an increase in hydrocarbon feed reserves by 25%, the field will extend its life for several more decades while maintaining the level of oil recovery coefficient at the previous level and will ensure further stable development of the EMG oil,” noted Anuar ZHAKSYBEKOV, Chairman of the EMG Management Board.

The main factors that ensured the growth of reserves were: reservoir characterization of the structural and tectonic model based on seismic and well data on the area of the distribution of deposits, estimated parameters, drilling of new wells, testing of sites evaluated according to category C2.

Nurzhanov's field was discovered in 1960, put into pilot operation in 1963, and industrial development has been underway since 1966. In total, eight different calculations of reserves were performed over the history of the field, according to which the reserves of the field were constantly increasing due to the development of new horizons and units.
