Dual training: student – yesterday, oilman - today

The press tour organized on March 27-28th by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan (hereinafter MES RoK) for republican and regional media was devoted to the experience of introducing dual training at Embamunaygas JSC (hereinafter - EMG or Company).

The press tour was attended by representatives of leading national and regional TV channels, Internet portals and print media. The main goal of the tour, organized by the MES RoK, is to acquaint the media with achievements in the field of domestic vocational education in the country on the example of the APEC Petrotecnic Higher Technical College and the successful implementation of the dual EMG training system. During the first day of the tour, the journalists visited the filed named after S. Balgimbayeva based on one of Company's operational structural unit — OGMD Zhaiykmunaygas, where, among others, students are trained in the framework of a dual program.

- Today, the dual training system is one of the most effective forms of training technical specialists. This format allows to combine theory and practice in the educational process. For an enterprise, it is an opportunity to prepare personnel for oneself, to reduce the expenses envisaged for searching and selecting employees, retraining and adapting them. For students it is the adaptation of graduates to the real working conditions and a high probability of successful employment in the specialty after graduation, - noted Counsellor of the MES RoK Mayrash TAIKENOVA during the press tour.

- After finishing 11 form in my native city - Ust-Kamenogorsk, I had a choice of where to continue my education. Fortunately, at that time, National Company KazMunayGas JSC allocated grants for training young specialists for the oil and gas industry in the republic, including a quota of 5 places for students of the East Kazakhstan region. I have successfully passed 2 tests and an exam in English, thus enrolling in APEC Petrotecnic for the specialty “Exploitation of oil and gas fields”. I emphasize that my mother is a public sector worker and before my time, none of my relatives worked in the oil industry before. In the last course of study, I, among others, was selected to undergo dual training in EMG. For six months, combined college-based training with practice at the South-Western Kamyshitovoye field of the OGMD Zhaiykmunaygas, and after graduating from APEC Petrotecnic according to the test results was hired by Company. Now I work as an operator of a research department at the Moldabek field of the OGMD Zhaiykmunaygas. I have a good salary and a solid social package, and during the break between the shifts I get higher education on the basis of the joint project “APEC Petrotecnic” and KBTU in Atyrau - Nurlan SOVETKANOV, a young employee of Company shared with journalists.

During the press tour, media representatives visited the training ground, based on which, at first, young oil workers hone their skills and hold professional skill contests. An excursion to the accommodational camp was also organized for journalists, where media workers familiarized with the living conditions, leisure activities and catering for oilmen.

On March 28, a round table was held in the APEC Petrotecnic building with the participation of employers, recruiting companies, representatives of the Ministry of Education and Media, where they discussed the possibilities for further development of vocational development and joint projects of companies with educational institutions for student internship and graduate employment.

- In the period from 2015 to the current time, 93 students have completed dual training in blue-collar jobs, 40 students of them, who scored the highest points in the final testing, are employed to Company. Another 43 students who passed the selection for dual training for the 2018–2019 academic year continue their on-the-job training, - noted Gulbanu SHARAFETDINOVA, EMG Director of Personnel management and reward department.

During the second day, media representatives visited the interactive EMG museum.
