Role of Women in the Oil and Gas Industry

On March 20 of the year, the on-site regional meeting of the Women's Energy Club KAZENERGY (hereinafter - WEC) was held at the site of Embamunaygas JSC (hereinafter - EMG or Company) with the topic “The Role of Women in the Oil and Gas Industry”.

At the opening of the meeting, the Chairman of the Board of EMG - Zhaksybekov A.E., deputy of Akim of Atyrau region - Azhigaliyeva A.T., Chairman of the WEC - Kazmortransflot UK ltd financial director – Akkaysieva A.U made a welcoming speech. 

- Over the course of their almost 100-year history, Emba women made a special contribution to the establishment and development of the enterprise. They created the first oil industry workers the living and home comfort, later becoming the founders of glorious dynasties. During the war years, women replaced men at work, ensuring oil production for the needs of the front line. To this day, the delicate shoulders of women are entrusted with the difficult task of combining work with the duties of the keeper of the hearth and the mother. 238 of the approximately 900 women working in Emba - are mothers of many children, for whom all conditions are being created today within the framework of the Company's social package, - mentioned Anuar Zhaksybekov.

The main purpose of the on-site meeting was to exchange experiences and practices of gender development in oil and gas companies. A plenary session was held as part of the on-site meeting, during which the moderator and one of the speakers was a member of the WEC  executive committee - the Deputy Chairman of the Board on Economics and Finance of Company - R.N. Tasmagambetova.

- The goals of creating a women’s association based on the EMG club “Munaishy Kyz” are inextricably linked with the values ​​and mission of Company. As part of its priority value - ensuring the welfare and health of workers, in 2018 the club organized a range of trainings on the diagnosis and prevention of cancer, personal growth and the development of oratory for the female staff of all production departments. I emphasize that during the first year of work we received powerful feedback from our employees and realized the need for further systematic and deep work with our women - Rysty Tasmagambetova said during her speech as speaker.

The presentations on activities in the field of gender equality and the work of women's associations within their enterprises were made by the executive director of human capital development of the KAZENERGY Association - Akhmurzina L.Zh., Deputy Chairman of the Board of Halyk Bank JSC - Satubaldina Z.S., Lead Financial Analyst and Development Coordinator for Women’s Community of TCO LLP – Suinshbekkyzy A., HR Department Manager of ANPZ LLP – Zhailasheva A.A., Material Support Advisor, POD NCOC N.V. - Suleimenova Z., as well as Chairman of the NGO “Association of Business Women of Kazakhstan in the Atyrau Region” - Aytiev N.T.

In the framework of the on-site meeting, a number of oil and gas workers were awarded on behalf of the KAZENERGY Association and Embamunaygas JSC. On the same day, WEC Executive Committee meeting was held. Work plans for 2019 were discussed during the meeting: the development of the Information Analytics review of “The Role of Women in the Energy of RoK” in cooperation with the EBRD, the implementation of the Digital Mentoring Project, the organization and conduction of the IV WEC forum and other organizational issues.

“Embamunaygas” JSC is affiliated company of “KazMunayGas Exploration Production” JSC. Officially, the foundation of “Embamunaygas” JSC start from 1922 - since the foundation of “Embaneft” Trust for development of the Dossor and Makat fields. The main company profiles are exploration, development of oil and gas fields; oil and gas production; oil and gas processing. “Embamunaygas” JSC consists of six operational structural units in Atyrau and four regional units in Atyrau Oblast: “Zhaiykmunaygas”, “Dossormunaygas”, “Kainarmunaygas”, “Zhylyoimunaygas”, “Embamunayenergo” company, and “Equipment technical maintenance and warehouse management”. Company supplies produced oil for export and domestic market. For the domestic market, oil is supplied to the oil processing plants in Kazakhstan. Oil is exported via two main routes: through the pipelines of the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC) and Uzen-Atyrau-Samara (UAS). Sales gas is marketed through the gas and gas supply national operator of the RoK – “KazTransGas” JSC. 

Starting October 1, 2012 to 2018, Embamunaygas JSC sent over 897 billion tenge for the payment of taxes to the republican and local budgets, more than 4.3 billion tenge was allocated for the development of regional infrastructure.
